I want to start with a promise, and I want it to be a promise I can actually keep. I am not going to tell you that saving your first five figures is easy. I am not going to tell you it takes no sacrifice, or that a clever app will do it for you while you sleep. I am going to tell you it is possible, that it is simpler than you have been led to believe, and that it can happen within twelve months if you are willing to follow a structure instead of a feeling.
That last part matters more than anything else in this book. Most people who try to save money are not following a structure. They are following a mood. They save in the weeks when they feel motivated and they stop in the weeks when they do not. By December they have a few hundred pounds in an account they have forgotten the password to, and they tell themselves they are just not the saving type.
You are the saving type. Every human being who has ever been handed a payslip is the saving type. What most people are missing is not character. It is a plan that survives contact with real life.
